Recently, when I made a purchase on AliExpress, I received a somewhat unusual tracking number starting with “BR~MG”.

However, this tracking number didn’t show any information on standard tracking sites, which took some effort to figure out. So in this article, I’ll explain how to track “BR~MG” tracking numbers and summarize the delivery process.
How to Track Your Package
Basically, you can track it in these 3 steps:
Use Cainiao for China-side information, and Japan Post for tracking after arrival in Japan.
- Enter the “BR~MG” tracking number at Global Express Tracking – Cainiao
- In the results, you’ll see “(Latest Tracking Number: LP*********HK)” – note down this “LP~HK” number
- Enter the “LP~HK” number at Japan Post Tracking Service to check domestic delivery status

Actual Delivery Time and Impressions
In this case, it took approximately 9 days from shipment in China to arrival and delivery completion in Tokyo.
The shipping method was “International e-Packet Light“, and it was ultimately delivered to the mailbox.
I was honestly a bit nervous when I found a package worth nearly 60,000 yen (~$400) in my mailbox (lol).
That said, it was surprisingly fast to arrive within 10 days including customs clearance.
Looking at the tracking results, it seems the package was held up for one day at customs, but compared to international shopping in the past, this felt quite smooth.

Customs Duties and Taxes
One concern with international shopping is “What happens with customs duties and consumption tax?”
The package I received included an invoice, but the price listed was significantly lower than what I actually paid.
Because of this, I wasn’t charged any additional customs duties or consumption tax for this order.
As a result, I only paid “product price + AliExpress shipping”, making it more affordable than expected.
However, this is only true for this particular case and won’t always be the same.
If customs inspects the package, proper taxation may be applied, so it’s better to think of this as “got lucky this time.”
Even if you are taxed, it’s often still cheaper than buying domestically, so some acceptance is necessary.
Summary of Important Points
Finally, here’s a summary of key points I noticed when using “BR~MG” tracking numbers:
- Mailbox delivery: This time it was delivered as “International e-Packet Light” and placed directly in the mailbox. If it’s a high-value item, you might want to be careful about delivery timing.
- Tracking number changes mid-route: The initial “BR~MG” number alone isn’t sufficient – it switches to a new number like “LP~HK” along the way. Always check the tracking site for the latest number.
- Taxation is case-by-case: I wasn’t taxed this time, but that won’t always be the case. Be prepared to accept that “as long as it’s cheaper than domestic, it’s OK” even if taxed.
- Customs delays are possible: This time it arrived in 9 days, but depending on customs timing, it can take 2 weeks or more.
International shopping inevitably has more risks compared to domestic purchases, but if you understand and accept these, it can be a very cost-effective way to shop.
