Are AliExpress Budget CPUs Legit? I Imported a Ryzen 9 9950X to Find Out

In this article, I’ll share my experience buying an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X CPU from AliExpress.
I’m always keeping an eye on gadgets and PC parts, and this time it turned out to be quite a significant purchase.

The AliExpress Sale Price Was Insanely Cheap

AliExpress recently had a “Back to School Sale.”
AliExpress runs sales frequently, but this time even high-end components like CPUs were heavily discounted, and I couldn’t resist clicking “Buy.”

“Sure it’s cheap, but will it actually arrive?” and “Could it be a fake?” — I honestly had those concerns.
But the price difference was so massive that I figured it was worth a shot.

Nearly 30,000 Yen Cheaper

Buying a brand-new Ryzen 9 9950X domestically in Japan costs around 90,000 yen.

Price: 89,868 yen (as of 2025/08/29)

Buy on Amazon

On AliExpress, I was able to get it for just 62,261 yen.

That’s roughly a 30,000-yen difference.
It’s rare to see such a huge gap when buying PC parts, so it was quite surprising.

Store Information

I purchased from a shop called “Cpu-Top Store.”
On AliExpress, multiple sellers list the same products, so choosing the right store is surprisingly important.

There are several other sellers offering this CPU as well. For example, you can also purchase from shops like these:

*From experience, choosing a seller that meets these two criteria tends to be safe: “high sales volume” and “has reviews from Japanese buyers.”

From Shipping to Delivery

The shipping method was “AliExpress Standard Shipping.”
International orders can sometimes take weeks, but this one arrived surprisingly fast.

Shipped: 8/18
Arrived: 8/27

It took about 9 days, which was faster than expected.

Tracking was available throughout, which helped ease any anxiety.
The packaging was also reasonably solid, giving more peace of mind than you might expect from an international purchase.

About Customs Duties and Taxes

One major concern with overseas shopping is: “What about customs duties and taxes?”
For high-value items, you might get hit with additional charges upon delivery, so I was a bit nervous.

The package came with an invoice, but the declared value was significantly lower than what I actually paid.
As a result, I wasn’t charged any additional customs duties or consumption tax.

When buying domestically in Japan, prices always include tax, so this is one of the unique advantages of international shopping.
Of course, this is case-by-case, and there’s no guarantee you won’t be taxed on every order.
But at least for this particular purchase, I only paid the product price, making it an even better deal than expected.

One caveat: the invoice price being set low is at the seller’s discretion, and if customs flags it, you may be subject to full taxation.
So you can’t say “you’ll never be taxed.” It’s safer to assume that even with potential taxes, it’s still often cheaper than domestic prices.

Looking at online reviews, experiences are split — some people were taxed, others weren’t. It really comes down to luck and timing.

It Works Perfectly

Honestly, I was bracing for the possibility of a defective unit or a counterfeit.
But after installing it, everything worked without a hitch.

I regret not taking photos when it arrived, but both the boot test and benchmarks came back clean.
The overwhelming feeling was relief that it actually worked.

Conclusion

This was my first time buying a high-end CPU from AliExpress, and I’m very satisfied with the result.
Compared to domestic retail products, support is weaker, but the price is overwhelmingly cheaper.

Since it counts as a personal import, warranties and support are limited. But if you’re willing to accept that trade-off, it’s absolutely a viable option.
Next time I’m after high-end parts, I’ll definitely be checking AliExpress again!
