I’d like to share my review of Via Inn Prime Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi, a hotel I stayed at during a trip to Kyoto in the winter of 2023 (January).
I hope this will be helpful for anyone considering a stay here.
Overview
Via Inn Prime Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi is a hotel operated by JR West (West Japan Railway Company), targeting both business and leisure travelers.
It had its grand opening on May 30, 2019 (Thursday) and boasts an incredibly convenient location — just a 2-minute walk from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo Exit.
About the Deluxe Double Room
Via Inn Prime Kyoto Station Hachijo-guchi offers 9 different room types. For this stay, I booked the “Deluxe Double Room.”
The Deluxe Room features a separate-type bathroom (with a dedicated washing area) and is a generously sized 26 square meters.
As you’d expect from a recently built hotel, all rooms at the Superior Twin grade and above come with a separate-type bathroom (with a dedicated washing area).
Let’s take a look inside the room.
Inside the Deluxe Double Room
I knew it was 26 square meters, but I was genuinely surprised at how spacious it felt.
The room comes with a double bed, a large sofa by the window, a wall-mounted LCD TV, and a desk.

The wall design is very simple and modern.

There’s a clothes rack right by the entrance door.
The doors to the restroom and bathroom are also located here.

Next, the vanity area. It’s quite simple in design, but definitely serviceable.
Towels were stored in the drawer on the right.

And here’s the bathroom with its separate washing area. It’s very spacious, and I think you can really enjoy a relaxing bath here.
The water flow was strong, and the tub filled up fairly quickly.

About Breakfast
I tend to research hotels quite thoroughly before booking, and this one had very positive reviews for breakfast.
With high expectations, I wasn’t disappointed — it was excellent.
The breakfast buffet featured a good selection of Kyoto-inspired dishes. The variety was impressive, and everything was delicious overall.
I stayed for two nights and both mornings I ate until I was completely full!

About Luggage Storage
The hotel front desk will hold your suitcase on both the day of check-in and the day of checkout.
They have a dedicated luggage area inside the front desk where you can leave your suitcase.
Since the hotel is just a 2-minute walk from Kyoto Station’s Hachijo Exit, I had them hold my luggage right up until I boarded the Shinkansen on my departure day.
Coin lockers at Kyoto Station cost around 1,000 yen for a size that can fit a suitcase, so this convenient location is truly a lifesaver.
Overall Verdict
Having been newly built in 2019, this is an extremely clean and modern hotel. The access is excellent, making it incredibly convenient for both car rental pickups and train travel.
The separate-type bathroom available in rooms at the Superior grade and above was a great touch for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.
While I didn’t take a photo, there’s a convenience store on the 1st floor, which makes it easy to grab snacks or supplies at any hour.
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. Definitely consider staying here!
